Remembering what happened to AltaVista when Google came along — switching search engine is only ever a click away. Whether Google’s leadership has gone full Beatles and thinks that they are bigger than Jesus and likely to stay that way is something I can’t answer. My best guess would be that they looked at other tech companies doing the same thing the same way and figured the fuss would die down in a month or two.
